Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Boy oh boy, has this month been a busy one!
It seems like when school is in session we are all in perpetual motion, and believe me sometimes my personal motion is pretty s-l-o-w! The nicer weather has sure helped my attitude although I would dearly love some rain!
Birthday folks this week include: Travis Cochran, Nathan Rogers, Reta Pahl, Camy Anderson, Larry Malm, Toria McGowan, Owen Gifford, Nathaniel McGowan, Corwin Bunny-Moore, Marie Parker, Louise Person, and Ronald Kennedy. Happy Birthday and congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Royce Ammon on their wedding anniversary.
We are also happy to tell you that both John Ragland and Tom Neal are making progress in their recovery. John has currently returned back home and is gaining with his physical therapy. Tom may be home by the time this is in print. The soup benefit for Tom and his family will be held Sunday, January 27 from 12:30-3:30 at the fire hall. If you would like to contribute either salad or dessert dishes please contact Wilma Post at 436-3797. There will also be a silent auction during this time as part of the donation.
Last Sunday there was a bridal shower at the Harrisburg community Church for Hannah Brown and Ryan Norman. The tables were decorated with ivory, pink, and grey. Dessert was served and enjoyed by all, and everyone who attended had a great time. Hannah and Ryan are planning a spring wedding.
The Central Banner 4-H Club held their annual meeting Sunday, January 20. Officers were elected and future projects were discussed.
Speech practice continues as well as open gym and MAC Choral Clinic was held this past Monday at Minatare. I will tell you how that went next week.
Four games of basketball will be played at Potter-Dix tomorrow Friday, January 25. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and the last one is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. All four teams will compete the following day at Morrill and the first game will begin at 1 p.m. and the final one at 4 p.m.
The wrestling team will travel the same direction that Saturday, January 26, to Mitchell for a tournament that will start at 9 a.m.
After such a busy weekend there will be NO SCHOOL for the students on Monday, January 28. That is a teacher curriculum workday, so nah-nah-doo-doo. Great to have that on a Monday, for all around! However, the Banner County 4-H Sewing Club will take a Tour at Platte Valley Vac & Sew at 10:30 a.m. that day.
Tuesday, January 29 the junior high boys’ basketball team will play in Scottsbluff at 3:30 p.m. and will be on the road again the following day as they compete with Creek Valley. The girls will play at 1 p.m. and the boys will play at 2 p.m. These games will be played at Lodgepole. We wish you all safe travel, good luck and lots of fun and learning this week as you participate in these activities.
In the near future the FFA will be raffling off one-half of a hog during a local basketball game. The tickets are selling from FFA members or you may call the school at 436-5262. The tickets are $5 each and you do not have to be present to win. Also, if you are wanting (maybe I should say willing NOT wanting) to take on a weight loss challenge here is your chance. Contact Marie Parker at the school at 436-5262, pay $5 and learn the details. Weigh in was Monday or Tuesday, but I am sure being a few days late will not matter since we didn’t have this notice earlier.
Over in the Valley, tickets are available for the 13th annual Theatre West Fundraiser,” Broadway in the Bluffs.” Stars will be singing and dancing Broadway songs under the direction of Maren Chaloupka. The performance will be held at WNCC in the Little Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2. Advance tickets are on sale for adults and children for $20 each, or at the door adults $25 and students $10 (Doesn’t make sense, but that is what my notes say). A chocolate dessert bar will follow the performance in the Commons. For more information please call 635-6794.
At the Midwest Theatre January 25-27 the movie “Hitchcock” will play, on Friday and Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday the 27th at 1:30 p.m. The movie is rated PG.
Down south at the Kimball Chamber of Commerce, the Business Boosters are holding a Valentine Poetry Contest. Write your poem in any fashion that tickles your fancy, funny, romantic, silly or whatever as long as they are publishable in the local newspaper. Entries are due February 11 either in the Chamber Office which is located at 122 S. Chestnut, or you may fax them to 308-235-3825, or e-mail them to [email protected]. Remember to include your name, address, phone number and age.
Just a short note of nonsense. Here awhile back one of the kids was talking about a dance they will be having in the near future here at the school. I think it is a stuco dance, but I am not sure. Anyway, I was just trying to be politely interested so I asked if they were going to have a DJ. The person said no, we get our music from an i-pad. Anyway, I think that is what she said. It was some piece of modern technology that’s plays music, and I am sure there are several, so I may have the thing.
I thought about that. You know I went to school dances where we had records, live bands, later danced under a disco ball, had 8-tracks, then cassettes, now CDs and all of these newfangled things that I can’t even remember the name of.
Well all for now, have a good week and if this wind keeps up, buy a kite. That’s my plan. Thanks for the calls and notes of info, until next time take care! 436-7152, 641-1335, or e-mail to [email protected].
