Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
A potential site for the oil derrick to be erected on has been picked out, according to Bob Abramson. The site picked is near the Four Winds Golf Course.
“It’s just west of the golf course by the west well,” Abramson said.
However, though a site has been picked out, the group still needs to go through a process of getting the site approved before any action can be taken on moving the derrick to that spot.
“We have to ask the Department of Roads to approve us putting it there, and if the Department of Roads approves it, then we have to get the joint city and county executive committee together to approve putting it in that place too,” Abramson said.
The oil derrick was bought by Sam Gingerich for salvage from the Chamber of Commerce last year when the chamber sold it being unable to find a way to get it put back up.
“I went and picked it up, and the very next day some people contacted me who were interested in putting it back up,” Gingerich said.
Gingerich hopes that the group of Kimball residents trying to get the derrick put back up will be successful in doing so.
“I was very glad to hear that someone was interested in putting it back up. I think that seeing that the derrick was being sold motivated them to get on the ball and try to get something done. I’ll be very glad if it gets put back up. I think it needs to be put back up,” Gingerich said.
