This is another busy week at the library with Library Board Meeting this evening at 5:00 and the Oral history Project meeting tomorrow afternoon and the photography contest entries coming in. The entries for the photography contest have been great and include some very interesting photos. After Tuesday, the photos can be viewed and voted on for Viewer’s Choice awards. Please come in and visit these entries and cast your vote.
Each year, the Nebraska Center for the Book picks a book for the whole state to read and learn about the rich Nebraska history. The program is called One Book, One Nebraska. This year “O Pioneers!” by Willa Cather was chosen for adults; “Leviathan” by Scott Westerfeld and “Aliens on Vacation” by Clete Barrett Smith. These can be read and reviewed individually or as a group. Are you interested in a book club?
There are many things going on in the community. Please take time to take advantage of classes and education as they present themselves. One of the great opportunities for women to take advantage of is the Self-defense classes that are coming in March and April. Leta is planning some activities for teens in March.
Watch for news about money management classes in the near future. Money Smart Week, April 20-27, is to help citizens learn ways to manage their money. This was established through the American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. It has been in existence for a few years and more libraries are signing on each year to increase public awareness about being better consumers and financial managers. A committee has been analyzing the needs and prioritizing issues to present to the public. We are hoping that this will be an ongoing commitment to the community.
A new set of DVDs from the Panhandle Library System rotation program has arrived. Checkout is three days and one per family at a time.
