Geneva J. Mathews

Geneva J. Mathews, 73 of Harrisburg, Nebraska passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 2-4 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Hull /Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in honor of Geneva's name to the family. Geneva was born on March 28, 1940 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Louie and Marie (Meier) Green. She received her early education in Gering schools, graduating from Scottsbluff High School.

She married Carroll R. Mathews on June 19, 1960 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff and made their home in Banner County their entire 53 years of marriage.

She was a member of Hull United Methodist Church, UMW (United Methodist Women's Club). She was a homemaker for many years. Later she worked in the Banner County Schools as a cook and retired after 21 years. She also worked part time for Walmart for 7 years. Geneva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very faithful in her church and was loved by many. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband Carroll R. Mathews of Harrisburg; sons Myron Mathews of Harrisburg, Brian (Karla) Mathews of Illinois; daughters Teresa (Mathews) Smith of Cheyenne and Stacie (Mathews) Skinner of Lingle, WY and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
