Mary Hodgson

Mary Hodgson, 96, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, march 6, 2014 at the Cantrell Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Daves officiating. Burial will be held in the Kimball Cemetery. Mary Althea (Sage) Hodgson was born March 11, 1917, to William Gordon Sage and Jenny Lend (Cole) Sage.  Mary was next to the youngest of 6 children.  She had three brothers, Carl, Paul and George Sage.  She also had two sisters, Mildred Mae Perry and Jessie Lee David.  She was born and raised around Amsterdam, Missouri, where she attended school and church.  After graduating from high school, she attended Warrensburg College.  Mary taught school in 1936-37 and 1937-38 at the Concord Country School House in Bates County.  She married Leonard Hodgson on June 30, 1938.  Mary and Leonard then moved to Kimball and Gering, Nebraska for work.  Leonard and his brother worked on the potato harvest and Mary worked in the office for the potato company.  Mary bought a hobby shop in Kimball in 1956 where many remember going to buy things for their hobbies and also baby items.  Mary ran the hobby shop for almost 20 years, until she closed it December 25, 1975.  Mary enjoyed working on family genealogy whenever she got the chance.  She also worked on genealogy for the county as well.  Leonard Hodgson passed on March 5, 1984.  Mary and Leonard were very close sharing a wonderful marriage.  Mary loved her church ties, going to church and worshiping God faithfully.  Mary enjoyed going to the Senior Center with her friends to eat and exercise when she could.  She always loved being with her family of nieces and nephews, taking them on picnics and trips to the mountains.  Mary resided at 400 Jefferson St. before moving to the Kimball County Manor in 2004.

She is survived by 6 nieces and 3 nephews, Edna Stephens of Lone Jack, MO, Jeanette Trotter of Independence, MO, Donald Perry of Navato, CA, Wanda Lay of Independence, MO, Annette Manley of Independence, MO, Rayberta Hobbs of Buffalo, MO, Sherrial Dulin of Louisburg, KS, Paul Raymond Sage of Peculiar, MO and Dale David of Kimball, NE, along with several great nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
