Longhorns third at Kimball golf invite

With Henry Heeg and Jordan Greenwood finishing in the top four of the medal group, the Kimball high boys' golf team finished third in their own Invitational Golf Tournament this past week shooting a team score of 358. Chase County won the team title with 343 with Mitchell runnerup with 350, Kimball 358 to edge past Bayard with 359, Bridgeport 360, Creek Valley 385, Morrill 413, Sidney JV 427, and Laramie JV 462.

Lane Godfrey of Creek VAlley was the individual medalist with his round of 73 while Kimball senior Henry Heeg was one stroke back in second place with a 74. Roman Konvicka of Bayard was 3rd with 77, Kimball freshman Jordan Greenwood 4th at 79. Rounding out the top ten medal group were Curtis LairdChase County 80, Peyton Briggs-Mitchell 82, Dakota Swires-Bridgeport 83, Ryan Moline-Chase County 86, Bo McCay-Mitchell 87, Luis Panduro-Mitchell 87.

Kimball's Michael Ferguson shot 97, Kyle Spicer 108, and Spencer Shields 114 as the Kimball team shot their final competitive round on the home course in preparation for the upcoming Class C-5 District tournament which will also be held at the Kimball Four Winds Golf Course this coming Monday, May 19, with a 9 a.m. start time.

The C-5 District will be made up of 14 teams and will entertain close to 100 golfers according to tournament officials. Kimball Activities Director Ken Smith and Kimball Four Winds Pro and Kimball High boys' golf coach, Chad Wise, will serve as Tournament Directors. Schools involved include Ainsworth, Bayard, Bridgeport, Chase County, Dundy County-Stratton, Gordon-Rushville, Hershey, Kearney Catholic, Kimball, Mitchell, Perkins County, Stapleton/McPherson County, Southern Valley, and Valentine.

Anyone interested in watching the tournament play is welcome to turn out but are asked to observe the rules of not interfering with the play and staying the required distance from the participants. Again, start time has been set at 9 a.m. The top three teams along with the top 10 individuals will qualify for the state tournament play to be held at the Lincoln Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln on May 28-29.
