Gwen Sebastian wows Kimball crowd during Kimball/Banner County Fair performance

As Friday's fair events closed down for the evening several fair goers were encouraged to make their way to the high school auditorium for the final event of the day, a concert by Gwen Sebastian.

Gwen Sebastian is best known for being on the popular singing competition show, The Voice. The Voice opened many opportunities for her, such as being coached by Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. As a result of her time on The Voice, Sebastian was invited to tour with and sing back up for Shelton.

Well, even though Sebastian has been on tour with Shelton she took a break in order to play a few smaller shows. Kimball being a fortunate stop along the way.

Sebastian grew up in a town in North Dakota of less than eight hundred people so whenever she can she tries to make her way to smaller towns that remind her of her home.

"The thing about us small town Midwesterners is that no matter where we go, we never forget where we came from," Sebastian said.

Sebastian was originally supposed to play for Kimball at the fairgrounds. However, due to some adverse weather upon her arrival, Sebastian and her band requested that there performance be moved to an indoor venue.

Sebastian is an energetic performer who is not scared to dabble in covers of songs to get her audience excited about the evening. It was a modest crowd that turned out, most likely due to the venue change, however that did not stop those in attendance from dancing in their chairs and singing along.

Sebastian won over the crowd with songs that everyone could enjoy. She covered many favorites by the Beatles, Guns and Roses, The Cranberries, Journey, Miranda Lambert, and Dierks Bentley. She sang her own songs about small town life, namely, Small Town Soul.

"Now, I think that all us girls need a good break up song to get us through those times and this is one I wrote," Sebastian said.

Immediately after her statement she started singing her own song called, "Suitcase." Suitcase is a song about the end of a marriage and with it's clever lyrics and lovely melody, it provides a comfort with the right amount of strength that every girl needs when going through any kind of break-up.

Towards the end of the show, Sebastian stepped off the stage and let her band play without her. Bassist and vocalist, Jason Hoffman did a great job at firing up the crowd while both guitarists Glen Mitchell and Paul Brittain awed the crowd with each of their solos. Rounding out the short set sans Sebastian was Louis Newman on the drums.

After the band showed off their talents Sebastian went back out for an encore performance where she rocked out to "Paradise City." By the end of the show the crowd was on their feet applauding the small town North Dakota woman.

Sebastian stuck around after to sign autographs and take pictures with her fans old and new alike. She spent her meet and greet time thanking the fans graciously for their support.

"Thank you all so much, it means so much that you came out to see us play. I really appreciate it," Sebastian said.
