Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
More honors to report this week for Kimball High golfer Jaycie Walker. The talented senior earned All Western Trails Conference honors this past week by finishing in the top ten medal group shooting 108 to take 5th place at Bridgeport, this year’s conference hosts. Not one of Jaycie’s better scores as she has been under 100 a few times this year and could have been at the conference tournament had it not been for some penalty strokes that cost her about 10 strokes.
“I had some problems with my swing and ended up hitting a handfull or more out of bounds. Right now I am just working on getting my swing smoothed out again so I can be consistent,” Walker said.
Kalli Bush also had a tough day at the conference tournament shooting 128 but now all that remains on the schedule for Walker is a spot in the Best in the West tournament that was held yesterday (Wednesday) at the Gering Golf Course, and what an honor to be among this select group of the area’s best young lady golfers.
On Monday it all comes down to state qualifying at the District Tournament being held at Ogallala. With just two golfers on the roster, no chance for a team qualifying spot but both Walker and Bush have good shots at qualifying as individuals. A trip to the state tournament would be the top highlight of the season for the Kimball girls. This year’s state tournament for Class C-2 will be held at Columbus on October 13-14.
