Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Burns Lady Broncs Volleyball Team came to Kimball this past Thursday evening and demonstrated why they are 12-3 on the season and coming off a championship of the always tough Potter-Dix Tournament. The Broncs won in three by scores of 25-14 25-21 26-24.
With the exception of the first game, the Kimball girls played well, but the Broncs simply returned everything hit at them. They played error free in that first set. Some unforced serving errors hurt the Lady Longhorns in the second set, and then when it looked like Kimball had found their game and was leading 24-21 only to lose 26-24, the night ended on a sour note for coach Vicki Mitchell and her ladies.
"Burns is a good team, but there is no excuse for losing a game when you are up 24-21. It seems like it has become a mental thing with us when we get up in the 20s in close matches," said Mitchell. With the loss, the Kimball varsity drops to 7-9 on the season with more tough contests awaiting. On a positive note, the Kimball frosh won 25-9 25-4 and the JV team won 25-21 25-18.
From the match stat sheet, Ali Hunsaker had a strong night on defense with a team high 20 digs. Madison Biesecker led in service points with 13 and had 3 ace serves and a team high 18 assists along with 12 digs. Danika Daum was pounding the ball with 15 kills on the night along with 6 assists and 12 digs. Madie Snyder had 16 digs and Raelynn Hinton 15.
Kimball was at Potter Dix on Tuesday for a triangular with the Coyotes and Bayard. Tonight (Thursday) they are at Morrill.
