Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Chase County emerged as champions of the SPVA Conference Volleyball Tournament held at Sutherland this past Saturday. Chase County won in two sets over Maxwell for the team title while North Platts St. Pats won over Hershey for third place honors and Bridgeport captured fifth place after defeating Kimball in 3 sets. The Lady Longhorns started the day with a 3 set loss to St. Pats with scores of 18-25 25-16 17-25, came back with a two set win over Perkins County with scores of 25-15 25-15, and then fell to Bridgeport 16-25 25-19 17-25.
Kimball coach Vicki Mitchell said, "We were plagued with serving and hitting errors throughout the day. Our serving percentage was well below our team average for the year. Serving has not been a concern for us all season so it was surprising to see us struggle so much. We also had unforced hitting errors at times when we were not being pushed by a block. These problem are fixable and we will focus on repetition and consistency in practice this week.
"We will have to put this tournament behind us and prepare for the games on Tuesday and Saturday. At this point we do not yet have a bracket for the WTC Tournament but it looks like we should be a #2 or #3 seed. The girls are anxiously looking forward to the competition. There is only one team in the conference that we have not yet beaten, which is Mitchell. We saw them early in the season and haven't had a chance for a rematch. We believe we can play with, and beat, any team in our conference if we play together as a team."
The defensive stats on digs were not available this past week but Madison Biesecker had some positive stats from all three matches. In the St. Pats match, Madison had 9 points with 4 ace serves and 12 assists. Madie Snyder had 10 points and 2 ace serves and Danika Daum had 15 kills and 3 blocks.
Lots of players saw action in the win over Perkins County so the stats were spread out but Madison was high with 7 kills and 9 assists. Raelynn Hinton was high with 7 points.
In the match with Bridgeport Madison had 15 points with 2 ace serves, 9 kills and 3 blocks. Madison also had 13 assists While Daum had 10 kills and 9 assists. Hinton also had 3 blocks.
The Kimball ladies were at Grant this past Tuesday for a dual match, will participate in the WTC Conference Tournament at Mitchell on Saturday, and will host Sidney on Tuesday-October 28 with a 5 p.m. start time. Kimball will also take part in a freshman tournament at Morrill on Monday-Oct. 27.
