Gayland "Dean" Jackson

Gayland “Dean” Jackson, 78, of Pierce, Colo., passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at his home. Dean was born in Dix to Elton G. Jackson and Neva Wright Jackson on March 25, 1936. He was the second of six children. In 1945, the family moved to Kimball, where dean attended school, graduating in 1954.

Dean worked for several farmers in the area before joining the Army. He served for eight years then joined the Army Reserve, retiring as a Sergeant in 1996.

Dean and Catherine Berthoff were married Feb. 14, 1970. To this union, one daughter, Jessica, was born. They lived in Sutherland for two years, where Dean was sheriff and Cathy taught school. They moved to Colorado, living in Ault, before settling in Pierce, where Dean worked for Weld County as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement.

Dean is survived by a daughter, Jessica (Matthew) Johnson of New York; a sister, Bernita (Noia) Brown of Kimball; and a brother, Alan Dale Jackson of Niangua, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years; parents; brother, Richard of Sidney; and sisters, Carol and Mary Lynn of Kimball.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at First United Methodist Church in Pierce, Colo. Interment was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
