Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball High Lady Longhorns lost to Sidney in four sets in the regular season final match played on the Kimball home court this past week but gave good effort against the larger Class B school.
Coach Vicki Mitchell said, “We came out tough and driven and then through each set we started to let up at the end. While we don’t like the loss, it didn’t change us much on power points and not at all for the district seeding. When it comes to the subdistrict, we have to beat everyone. one game at a time and that is what we have in mind.”
Match scores were 21-25 25-18 21-25 19-25. Every game saw Kimball holding their own until like coach Mitchell said, they faltered at the end, with the exception of the second game where Kimball came through with some good serving to reap the victory. Ali Hunsaker served up 3 points to put Kimball up 11-9, Raelynn Hinton had 4 serve points to keep the lead at 16-13, Madison Biesecker served 3 to stay on top 20-16, and Madie Snyder served the final 4 points to win 25-18.
Stat leaders for the match saw Madison Biesecker with 12 points, 12 kills, 24 assists, and 5 digs. Danika Daum had a team high 18 kills, 18 assists, and 6 points. Madie Snyder led in points with 13 and Raelynn Hinton had 9. Ali Hunsaker had a team leading 7 digs, and Myriah Tyan was high with 3 blocks. Kimball closed out the regular season with a record of 14-13.
Sidney won the freshman match in 3 sets with Kimball taking the second set 26-24. Kimball won the JV match in 3 sets by scores of 25-19 15-25 15-9 and there is some very good talent in the younger classes. With no seniors on the squad, everyone returns next season plus a good class of incoming freshmen will boost the numbers next year.
