Clark Wicks

Clark Wicks, age 89 of Sidney, passed away at the Golden Living Center in Sidney, Sunday evening, Dec. 7, 2014.

Clark Eugene Wicks the son of Byron Earl and Bessie (Johnson) Wicks was born on Sept. 2, 1925, in Colome, S.D. He attended Scott Elementary School and graduated from Colome High School in 1943. He attended one semester at the University of Nebraska where he was involved in ROTC before enlisting in the United States Army serving from 1944 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.

Clark was united in marriage to Ruthie D. Moore on April 18, 1946, in Hobbs, N.M. In 1949 he enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve, serving until 1952.

In 1951 Clark began working for the Hested Variety Store chain managing stores in McCook, Central City, Ord and in 1954 Clark moved his family to Kimball, managing its store until moving to Sidney in 1964. Clark managed J.J. Newberry's Dept. Store in Sidney for a few years before starting a 20-year career as a New York Life Agent. Clark ran the chains for football games for many years in Sidney and Kimball.

He was a member of the Elks Club and the American Legion Post in Sidney. Many of Clark's fondest memories were of family trips, travels with his wife Ruth and many camping memories with dear friends.

Clark is survived by two sons: Byron and wife Merrie of Littleton, Colo, and Brad and wife Sally of Wheatridge, Colo .; one daughter, Cheryl Lindekugel and husband Rod of Hershey; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Clark Wicks and wife Kerry, Cari Brownawell and husband Mike and Kim Lindekugel; and give great-grandchildren.

Clark was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Ruth; and two grandchildren, Chris Wicks and Debra Lindekugel.

Funeral services for Clark were at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, in the First United Methodist Church n Sidney with the Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Graveside services with military honors followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends were able to visit Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Thursday, Dec. 11, from 1-7 p.m. with the family present 4-5 p.m.
