Mary Kay Morgan, 67, of Rapid City, S.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Catherine O'Brien was born to John and Leona (Popetz) O'Brien on Feb. 22, 1947 in Omaha. She grew up and went to school in Kimball, graduating from Kimball High School. On July 10, 1965 she married Robert "Bob" Morgan in Kimball. They moved to Fort Lee, Va., where Bob was stationed with the U.S Army. In January of 1966 Mary Kay and Bob returned to Kimball. In 1969 they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where Mary Kay worked as a librarian for 15 years and then did foster care for three years. She really enjoyed working with and helping children.
In 1985 the family moved to Deadwood, S.D., and Mary Kay worked for Black Hills Special Services in Lead, S.D. They relocated to Rapid City, where Mary Kay worked in various retail jobs until she retired in 2012.
In Mary Kay's spare time she enjoyed attending the auctions and garage sales in the area, mostly looking for antiques. She also liked to spend time reading and sewing. Mary Kay's family was most important to her and she loved them all dearly.
She is survived by her husband, Bob of Rapid City; two sons, Rob (Nola) Morgan of Sioux Falls and Michael Morgan of Newcastle, Wyo .; two daughters, Cindy (Jay) Wallace of Seattle, Wash., and Jenny (Matt) Greene of Rapid City, S.D .; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, three brothers and her faithful companion, Buddy the dog.
Mary Kay was preceded in death by both parents; a daughter, Jeanette Lynn; and one brother.
Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 21, from 5-7 p.m. with a wake and Rosary service at Serenity Springs Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian burial for Mary Kay was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Rapid City. Father Brian Lane presided. Burial was at Black Hills National Cemetery.
