Commissioners accept chalk drawing from Sam Glenn visit

The first commissioners meeting of the year was held last Thursday after the county's newly elected officials were sworn in.

Larry Engstrom, who was re-elected, and newly elected commissioner Daria Anderson-Faden, joined Tim Nolting for the first commissioners meeting of 2015. The moment was a rather historical one since Anderson-Faden is the first female county commissioner in the history of Kimball County.

The commissioners went over the business of the new year, assigning each commissioner to different committees and as contacts for various county entities. Amidst this the commissioners were presented with a large chalk drawing, from the Kimball High School civics class.

Last fall, motivational speaker and author Sam Glenn visited Kimball as a result of efforts made by the Kimball High School civics class. They gathered donated funds from various entities around the city and county. While here, Glenn made a few different chalk drawings and left them here with the civics class. As a gesture of appreciation for their support, the civics class has given one of the chalk drawings to the county. The commissioners decided to place it on the second floor of the courthouse.

A public hearing was held on whether or not to add Grant County to the jurisdiction of the Panhandle Public Health District. This hearing ended with the approval of this change.

The commissioners approved the appointment of Dennis Barrack as the replacement for John Berg on the Kimball County Veterans Service Committee.

The commissioners also re-appointed Donald A. Brush as the county surveyor for the next four years.

Audrey Elliot of Kovarik Ellison & Mathis, PC was approved to be Kimball County's legal council in civil matters, replacing Robert Brenner.

The next commissioners meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
