Lady Longhorns win at Chase County

The Kimball High girls ran their season record to 5 wins and 4 losses after a hard fought three-game weekend where they lost on the home court to Sidney and Mitchell but came back on Saturday night to win on the road at Chase County.

The Kimball ladies were right in the hunt to win all three of their weekend encounters but came up short against Class B Sidney 46-38 and lost to a very strong Mitchell club 43-39, before getting the win at Imperial 42-35.

The contest with Sidney was close the entire contest with Kimball on top 9-8 after the first quarter, Sidney taking the lead at 17-15 at half time, and it was all tied up at 30-30 after three quarters of play. The Lady Raiders doubled the score of the fourth period to take the win. Sidney also doubled the amount of rebounds grabbed with 34 to Kimball's 17 and the local club had too many turnovers with 22 total. The winners were 12/23 at the foul line and Kimball shot 7/13.

In other team stats Sidney was 15/48 from the field and 4/11 on 3 point field goals, and had 12 fouls. They were led in scoring by Emily Mahr with 16 including 4 treys. Maddi Porter hit double figure scoring with 10.

Kimball was 14/38 from the field and 3/7 on 3 pointers, had 16 fouls, 14 steals and 7 assists. Danika Daum led Kimball scoring with 17 shooting a good 7/13 from the field and 2/3 from 3 point land. She also had 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Madison Biesecker had 9 points and a team high 5 steals. Jessica Hanks 6 points and 5 rebounds, Alex Reader 4 points and 3 steals, and Arica McCloud 2 points.

Like the Sidney game, the contest with Mitchell on Friday night was close throughout with the Lady Tigers securing the win in the fourth period. Mitchell held an 11-10 lead after the first quarter, it was tied at 26 at half time, and Kimball led 32-31 going into the fourth period.

Another 17 point night for Danika Daum as she went 8 for 8 at the foul line. Arica McCloud contributed 8 points on 4/5 shooting from the floor, Jessica Hanks had 4 points and a complete game with 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists. Alex Reader also with 4 points plus 3 assists and 2 steals. Kailey Dickerson, Myriah Tyan and Madison Biesecker all with 2 points with Biesecker also charting 4 steals and 4 rebounds.

In team stats Kimball had 14 turnovers, 16 fouls, were 10/12 at the foul line, 14/45 from the field and 1/11 on 3 pointers, 6 offensive and 15 defensive rebounds, 11 steals, and 9 assists. Mitchell won the rebound battle by 12 with 33 total, was 7/15 at the foul line, 15/49 from the field going 6/15 on 3 point attempts, and had 15 fouls. They were led in scoring by Aspen Reifschneider with 12 including 3 treys, Kady Lower with 10, Celeste Cardona 9, and McKenna Zulkoski 9. Lower was the difference in the fourth quarter with 6 points.

The Kimball girls showed a lot of character by coming back on the third straight night after the long road trip to win at Imperial. Daum closed out her weekend with a game high 22 points going 11/14 at the foul line and led in rebounds with 8. Kimball shot well at the charity stripe going 21/30 and were 14/18 in the final period.

In other team stats, they pulled 30 rebounds, 1 block, 5 steals, were 8/44 from the field, 5/22 from 3 point range led by Daum with 3 of 9. Biesecker had 6, Dickerson 5, Reader 5, and Hanks 4. Biesecker and Tyan had 6 rebounds each.

Coach Chauncey Pedersen said, "We finished out on Saturday night and this is what we need to work on doing. It cost us wins against Sidney and Mitchell."

The Kimball ladies were to host Potter-Dix this past Tuesday and this weekend they are on the road to Bridgeport Friday and Gordon-Rushville Saturday, with girls varsity game times set for 5:30 and 4 p.m.
