Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Two bowlers turned in perfect 300 games and will have a share of $1,000 in prize money from the Kimball Hospital Foundation’s 9 pin no-tap bowling tournament.
Robert Gardner and Scott Smith, both of Kimball, rolled their 300 games during the first weekend of the tournament. The $1,000 prize fund will be shared by all bowlers who score perfect 300 games over the two weekends.
In addition to the perfect game prize fund, bowlers can win cash prizes in each division on a 1 of 6 ratio. The tournament resumes this Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1, 3:30 and 6 p.m.
“People really like the 9 pin no-tap format and we had a solid turnout of 37 local and out-of-town bowlers for our first weekend,” said Kerry Ferguson, director of the Kimball Hospital Foundation. In the 9-pin no-tap format, the bowler gets credit for a strike even if he or she knocks down just nine pins.
The tournament, which is open to league and non-league bowlers of all ages and abilities, is a fundraiser for the foundation. Tournament proceeds will help purchase new state-of-the-art surgery table for Kimball Health Services.
Gardner captured his perfect 300 score in his second game of league doubles competition. Smith rolled his 300 in game three. He and Michael Crow are currently in first place in the adult league doubles division with a handicap series total of 1614. Close behind are Lynn Anthony and Kelly Garrett with 1593.
Crow leads the men’s league singles division with a handicap series of 863, followed by Everett Durheim with an 822.
Chuck Frakes of Kimball came within four pins of a perfect game and a share of the $1,000 prize, rolling a 296 in his third game of doubles.
In the women’s league singles division, Teresa Anthony leads with a handicap series of 782, followed by Deb Grant with 767.
Bruce Tjosvold is in first place in the men’s non-league singles division with a 460. Robin Tjosvold leads the women’s non-league singles division with 536. They also lead the adult non-league doubles with an 855.
Zane Anthony is in first place in the youth non-league singles race with a 515 series.
Slots remain available to join the tournament this Friday night and Saturday, Ferguson said. The cost is $20 per event.
