Kimball junior high boys take second at Bayard

The Kimball Junior High boys track team had a strong showing in their opening track competition at the Bayard Invite, finishing second in the 14 school event. Sidney won the boys division with 108.5 points with Kimball runnerup with 91 and third place Bayard a distant third with 43.

Several standouts for Kimball on the day with Brady Kilgore sweeping the hurdle events winning the 110 meter hurdles in 16.84 and taking the 200 hurdles in 28.18. Kilgore also ran 6th in the 100 meter dash in 12.45. He was a four event placer as he was 5th in the high jump at 4’10.”

Zachery Wagner ran 3rd in the 1200 meter run with a time of 3:55, was 5th in the triple jump at 31’8,” was 3rd in the 800 meter run in 2:28.13 and ran a leg on Kimball’s 2nd place 4x400 relay team. A good day for Zane Anthony who ran 3rd in the 400 in 1:01.31, was 5th in the long jump at 15’5.5,” and also ran on the 4x400 relay.

Kimball had three placers in the discus with Aroon Flores 3rd with a throw of 98’7,” Ethan Culek-Schaffer 4th at 96’6,” and Corey Travis 5th at 93’1.” Flores won the gold in the shotput with a heave of 38’7,” and Culek-Schaffer ran 5th in the 200 in 26.88.

The 4x400 relay team that ran 2nd in 4:18 was made up of Wagner, Anthony, Reuter, and Culek-Schaffer. Reuter also had a good time in the open 800 finishing 2nd in 2:27.28. Kimball’s all 7th grade team in the 4x200 relay made up of Brayden Tyan, Brendan Walker, Jacob Withrow, and Beau Hanks placed 6th with a time of 2:04.16.

Not as good of a day for the Kimball girls as they finished 11th in the field of 14 schools with 12 points, but what a day for 7th grader Jenna Greenwood who was 3rd in the long jump at 13’8.5,” 5th in the 100 meter dash in 14.53, and 6th in the triple jump at 27’6.” Kate Reader had the other two places for Kimball with a 5th in the triple jump at 28’7.5” and a 6th in the long jump at 13’2.”

A lot of talent on the Kimball Junior High track team this year and they will be back in action today (Thursday) at Sidney with a 9 a.m. start time. On April 23 Kimball will host their own meet, also with a 9 a.m. start.
