Potter-Dix boys finish second, girls take fourth at Pine Bluffs

The Potter-Dix boys took second place and the girls finished fourth at the Pine Bluffs track meet held last Friday.

The Coyotes finished just 11 points behind host Pine Bluffs for the title, 129 to 118 points. Lingle-Fort Laramie was third with 87 points, followed by Burns with 80 points.

In the girls standings, Burns edged host Pine Bluffs by just half a point, 112.5 to 112. Lingle-Fort Laramie was third with 105 points, followed by the Lady Coyotes in fourth with 94 points.

The Coyotes took first place in nine different events at Friday's meet, led by another stellar performance from Kelsey Rozelle. The junior won four different events on his own, just a week after winning three events at the Alliance meet held in Scottsbluff.

In field events, Rozelle won the high jump with a leap of 6-0 and also took first in the long jump at 20-09.5. He won the high jump by six inches over Haize Fornstrom of Pine Bluffs and took the long jump by almost a foot over Dallen Fleenor of Lingle-Fort Laramie.

Rozelle won the 100 meter dash in 11.73, besting Aaron Smith of Cheyenne South by 0.19 seconds. He took first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.25, besting teammate and second place finisher Cameron Purcell, who finished with a time of 24.53.

Cooper Hicks also won a pair of events for Potter-Dix. He took first in the 400 meter dash in 53.58, edging Noah Taylor of Burns at 54.02. Hicks also won the 300 meter hurdles in 44.61.

Jake Johnson took home first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.06, and topped Rowan Fichtner of Burns, who finished just behind him at 2:03.14.

The Coyotes also took the top spot in both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. The team of Johnson, Samuel Bogert, Purcell and Hicks won the 4x800 relay in 9:17.66, easily beating the competition. Lingle-Fort Laramie finished second in 9:50.78. Potter-Dix has won the 4x800 meter relay in each meet it has competed in the event this year. The Coyote 4x400 meter relay team of Hicks, Johnson, Bogert and Purcell won the race in 3:48.06. Pine Bluffs took second in 3:51.45.

Alexus Rozelle was a double-winner to lead the Lady Coyotes at Friday's meet. She won the shot put with a top throw of 37-06.5, besting second place finisher Jaden Ragsdale of Pine Bluffs at 35-11.5 Rozelle won the discus with a throw of 122, again besting Ragsdale, whose top throw was 116-06.

Cortney Lewis also had a strong day in the throws, finishing third in the shot put and fourth in the discus. Lewis had top throw of 33-09 in the discus and 87-07.5 in the shot put.

Anna McLaughlin won the high jump with a leap of 4-08, besting two other competitors by two inches. Ryley Hicks finished second in the pole vault at 8-06, while Lily Joslin of Cheyenne East won the event at 9-06.

In running events, Payton Franklin and Payge Hoffman each had a strong day in the hurdles. Franklin finished third in the 100 meter hurdles and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles, while Hoffman took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 300 meter hurdles.

The Lady Coyotes also performed well in the relays. The team of Hope Shepard, Savannah Shaw, Franklin and Trinity Langley took second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 55.88 seconds.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the Lady Coyote team of Shepard, Shaw, Presley Christensen and Hoffman finished third in 4:44.69.
