Dahlgrin wins 110 hurdles at MAC, takes second at Best of the West

Tyson Dahlgrin had quite the week in the hurdles. The Banner County senior won the Minuteman Activities Conference title in the 110 meter hurdles and took second in the Best of the West meet in the event last week.

Banner finished sixth in both the boys and girls standings at the MAC meet held Saturday in Bayard. The host school won both the boys and girls titles, edging the Potter-Dix boys by one point and the P-D girls by eight points to claim both conference titles.

Dahlgrin won the 110 meter hurdles at the MAC meet with a time of 15.53, easily besting Bryce Hargens of Bayard, who took second with a time of 16.31. Hargens came back to best Dahlgrin in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.39. Cooper Hicks of Potter-Dix took second in 43.41, followed by Dahlgrin in third place at 44.21. Dahlgrin also had a fourth place finish in the 100 meter dash in 12.48 seconds. Teammate Micah Walker finished 10th in 12.86.

Kadan Huber also had a strong outing in the field events for the Wildcats. He finished third in the high jump with a leap of 5-06, and also took eighth in the long jump at 17-08.5.

Bryce Olsen had a solid day in the throws. He finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38-09, and took 11th in the discus with a throw of 95-04.

The Wildcats also finished fourth in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Huber, Wicker, Olsen and Dahlgrin finished the event in 4:08.52.

MaKenna Dahlgrin's strong day in the throws led the Lady Wildcats at the MAC meet. She took second in the shot put in 33-01.5 to lead Banner on the day, just 3-07 behind winner Alexus Rozelle of Potter-Dix. She also finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 97-01. Rozelle also won the discus with a top throw of 114-11.

Courtney Knisley led Banner in the running events with a pair of top four finishes. She took third place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 15:17, and finished fourth in the 800 meter run in 2:58.56. Sierra Flores also had a top finish in the 800 meter run, finishing fifth in 3:00.78. Flores was also just one spot out of the points in the 400 meter dash, finishing seventh in 1:18.18.

The Lady Wildcats also had two top five finishes in relay events. The Banner 4x800 meter team of Knisley, Erika Geary, Flores and Arielle Whelchel finished third in 12:20.18. The 4x400 meter squad of Whelchel, Flores, Geary and Abby Russell took fifth place in 5:32.10.

In the Best of the West held April 28 in Scottsbluff, Tyson Dahlgrin shined in the hurdles. He took second in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing less than half a second behind Mitchell's Drew Gilliland. Gilliland won in 14.96 seconds, while Dahlgrin took second in 15.41.

Gilliland won the 300 meter hurdles in 39.37 seconds while Dahlgrin did not finish far behind, taking fourth place in 42.07 seconds.

In the high jump, Huber finished seventh with a leap of 5-08. Hunter Thompson of Pine Bluffs won the event with a leap of 6-0.
