Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball won the boys division of the Pine Bluffs Junior High Track and Field Invite this past week amassing 144 points to run away with the team championship. Burns was a distant runnerup in the 13 school field. Bayard won the girls division with 115 points holding off Southeast who finished second with 106. Kimball was 4th with 54 while Bridgeport was 3rd with 57.
Lots of highlights on the day for Kimball. Brady Kilgore won both hurdle races taking the 75 meter hurdles in 12.13 and the 200 meter hurdles in 27.69. He also was 3rd in the high jump at 5’0” and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team. Jake Jenkins ran 2nd in the 100 meter dash in 12.62, ran legs on both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, and finished 7th in the long jump at 15’3.” Ethan Culek-Schaeffei was 3rd in the 200 meter dash in 25.76, 5th in the 400 in 1:01.48, was 2nd in the discus at 112’5,” and also ran on the 4 x 100 relay.
Zane Anthony was 2nd in the 400 in 58.61, 3rd in the long jump at 15’9” and ran on both the winning relays. The winning times in the 4x100 relay was 48.87 and in the 4x400 4:16.02. Izaac Reuter and Zachery Wagner were the other two members of the 4x400.
Izaac Reuter also ran 2nd in the 800 meters in 2:25.75, was 2nd in the pole vault at 8’6,” and 4th in the triple jump at 31’8.5.” Zachery Wagner was 5th in the 1600 meter run in 5:39.38, won the long jump at 16’6,” and was 2nd in the triple jump at 32’4.”
Kimball was strong in the weights taking four places in the discus led by Culek-Schaeffer’s 2nd place along with Aroon Flores taking 4th at 105’9,” Corey Travis 5th at 103’7,” and Brendan Walker 6th at 99’7.” In the shot put Flores was 2nd at 37’6” and Travis 3rd at 34’5.” Walker just missed1finishing 7th at 31’9.”
The Pine Bluffs meet was ran with both 7th and 8th grades all in one division. For the Kimball girls, 7th grader Jenna Greenwood stood out once again taking 2nd in the 100 meter dash in 13.93, won the long jump at 14’3.5,” and was 3rd in the triple jump at 30’8.5.” Kate Reader had a stand out day winning the 800 meters in 2:45.48, taking 2nd in the triple jump at 31’6.25”, and 4th in the long jump at 13’7.” Greenwood and Reader joined with Madison Wynne and Sheridan Magninie to run 4th in the 4x100 relay with a time of 57.50.
Madison Wynne was 5th in the 400 meters in 1:10.25 and also ran with Lacey Klinkhammer, Magninie, and Kara Cole on the 4x400 relay that ran 9th overall. Lexi Hoppes was 5th in the shot put at 26’9.”
The Kimball Junior High track teams will be in action today (Thursday), according to the school calendar, at the SPVA Junior High Conference meet in Imperial with a 10 a.m. start time.
