Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Banner County girls finished fifth and the boys took sixth place at the Cheyenne County Invitational held Friday in Sidney.
The Lady Wildcats had a trio of second place finishes at the meet in addition to some strong performances.
In the throws, MaKenna Dahlgrin led the way with a second and third place finish. She took second in the discus with a throw of 94-10, finishing behind Alexus Rozelle of Potter-Dix, who won the event with a throw of 116-0. Dahlgrin took third in the shot put with a throw of 33-04. Emma Holz of Paxton won the event with a throw of 38-08.75. Abby Russell added points in the throws with two top six finishes. Russell took third in the discus at 92-05, and finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 30-06.75.
Sierra Flores had a pair of top six finishes in the medium running events. She finished fourth in the 800 meter run in 3:07.15, and took sixth in the 400 meter dash in 1:17.75. Cheyenne Nickel of Leyton won the 400 meter dash in 1:08.84.
Courtney Knisley took second place in the 1600 meter run in 6:21.20, just two seconds behind Franki Doty of Minatare, who won the event.
The Lady Wildcats also finished second in the 4x800 meter relay. The team of Knisley, Flores, Erika Geary and Arielle Whelchel finished the event in 12:38.
Tyson Dahlgrin once again led the Wildcats with a stellar day in the hurdles. He won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.44 seconds, topping second place finisher Coby Hicks of Potter-Dix by three quarters of a second. Dahlgrin won the 300 meter hurdles in 42.07, besting Cooper Hicks of Potter-Dix by just over a second and a half.
Also in running events, Micah Wicker finished in the points in the 400 meter dash, taking sixth place in 1:01.52. He finished just one spot out of the points in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.37 seconds and a seventh place finish.
Kadan Huber took third in a pair of field events. He finished third in the high jump with a leap of 5-04, just four inches behind the winner, Kelsey Rozelle of Potter-Dix. Huber also finished third in the long jump at 17-08.5, behind both Rozelle and Cameron Purcell of Potter-Dix.
Bryce Olsen also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 38-01.25. Jacob Ernest of Leyton won the event with a throw of 45-06.75.
