Josephine "Josie" C. Vernon

Josephine "Josie" C. Vernon, 86, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Father Robert Karnish officiating. Burial will be held in the Sterling Riverside Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Memorials have been established to either the American Alzheimer's Association or the American Diabetes Association. The services for Josie have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Josephine Catherine Vernon was born in Sterling, Colo., on June 12, 1929, the daughter of Melger and Pulgaria Hergenreter. She was raised in Sterling and attended St. Anthony's High School. She was married to Wayne Hemphill in Sterling in 1951.

The family lived in Sterling until moving to Kimball in 1965. Josie worked as a waitress in Kimball. She was married to Robert C. Vernon in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1968. Josie also worked as a cashier at Safeway and the Co-op Food Store in Kimball and then worked at GRI until her retirement in 1993. She loved crocheting and fishing. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed going to garage sales. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Dennis (Barbara) Hemphill of Greeley, Colo., and David (Lori) Vernon of Dickinson, N.D .; brothers, Ralph Hergenreter and Casper Hergenreter, both of Brush, Colo .; sister, Lucille Graham of Sterling, Colo .; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert (Lynn) Hemphill; four brothers and four sisters.
