Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

KKB, Clean Harbors household hazardous waste collection is July 25

Kimball County residents are invited to participate in a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event at Clean Harbors, located 5 miles South of Kimball on Hwy. 71, on July 25, 2015 from 8-11 a.m. Household hazardous waste are products which are flammable, corrosive, reactive and/or toxic. Keep Kimball Beautiful highly encourages Kimball residents to go through their kitchens, bathrooms, workshops and garages to collect old and unused materials to dispose of them responsibly. It is advised to keep all materials in their original containers or at least be properly labeled and in tightly sealed containers. Pack containers into sturdy cardboard boxes so they remain upright while transporting, remember to separate paint, pesticides and household cleaners from each other. Do not mix chemicals or place them in garbage bags.

Household hazardous waste can contaminate air, soil, surface and ground water, our community wastewater treatment systems and septic tanks if improperly disposed of. Old household hazardous waste left sitting on shelves or floors for years can pose possible hazards as often the containers holding the liquids may corrode over time.

Clean Harbors has provided a list of common household items which will be accepted at the HHW collection event. Large quantities of unknown materials will not be accepted, small quantities may be field tested and accepted per staff discretion. Radioactive and unstable wastes, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, gas cylinders, explosives, gun powder, flares, ammunition will not be accepted. Substances regulated by the Drug Enforcement Agency, medical or biologically infectious waste materials will also be refused. Clean Harbors staff will be sorting materials and will advise if there are any additional substances which may not be received.

Household items such as pharmaceuticals, batteries, electronics and appliances will not a part of this collection event on July 25. If you have additional questions you are welcome to contact Keep Kimball Beautiful at 308-235-3202 or email your inquiry to [email protected].
