Golfers invade Kimball for Vince's Corner tourney

The entries were closed at 130 golfers for the 2015 version of the popular Vince's Corner, two day, four person, blind draw, golf scramble tournament held this past weekend at the Four Winds Golf Course in Kimball. Like always, golfers came from near and far to spend a couple of days vying for the top spots and the bragging rights, along with meeting up with old friends and simply enjoying Kimball and golf on one of the state's finest golf courses.

The format of course is a blind draw, both days, beginning on Friday evening at the Wind Break Bar and Grill where all golfers were treated to food and drink before finding out who their team mates would be on Saturday. Following Saturday's play, they did it all over again that evening with more food and drink, and then the drawing for Sunday play.

The top four teams on Saturday saw the team of Ty Garrett, Brad Bringelson, Lance Nye, and Toby Welch shoot 58, barely edging out the team of Henry Heeg Jr, Cory Huston, Tyler Yberra, Gary Haack, also shooting 58, with handicap percentages determining the difference. (Note: team members are listed in order as A-B-C-D player). The third place team shooting 60 was Kevin Thomas, Greg Robinson, Craig Scartozzi, Gene Golding, and fourth place was the team of John Roberts, Brandon Starks, Mick Megowen, Mark Nienhueser, also shooting 60.

Three teams shot 59 on Sunday with once again the handicap percentages used to determine the placings. The winning team on Sunday was the team of Darrell Dean, Bill Hinton, Kelly Garrett, Mike Reuter. There was an exact tie for two-three between the teams of Ty Garrett, Greg Robinson, Phil Francone, Gary Haack, and the team of Eric Freeburg, Cory Huston, Jim Eddington, Rollie Hager. The fourth place team on Sunday shooting one stroke back of the top three with a round of 60 was Doran Bush, Joel Staehr, Dave Mann, Shelby Nadella.

After two days of play, the totals were put together to determine the overall winners from all four classes with Kimball's own Ty Garrett taking top honors in the A players division, Eric Freeburg was 2nd, Darrell Dean 3rd, and Brett McCarville 4th.

Winner of the B-player division was Cory Huston, followed by Greg Robinson, Brad Bringelson, Bill Hinton. In the C-player division top place went to Lance Nye, followed by Phil Francone, Craig Scartozzi, and Jim Eddington. The division D-player winner was Gary Haack, followed in order by Shelby Nadella, Mark Nienhuesser, and Mike Reuter.

Along with the top four place winners and the two day team placings, there were also skin money awarded both days and numerous flag prizes both days plus a raffle drawing. The golf course was in excellent condition, the Wind Break Bar and Grill were awesome hosts and Four Winds Pro Chad Wise handled the organization and playing procedures. The Heeg family with Henry Heeg senior as tournament chair person made sure all of their golfing guests were taken care of in grand fashion. Did I mention the weather was gorgeous!
