Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Bateman, 78, of Kimball, passed away at her home in Kimball on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Kimball Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Hod Boltjes officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Kimball cemetery. Friends may visit http://www.cantrellfh.com to view the obituary and leave condolences for the family. Memorials have been established to the Kimball Evangelical Free Church. The services for Betty have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Betty was born July 27, 1937, in Fairbury, the third of six children to parents Charles William and Helen Marie (Grammer) Reid. After attending kindergarten in Augusta, Kan., her family moved to Goodland, Kan., in 1941. She graduated from Goodland High School in 1955. She met Carl Bateman, her love of 58 years at the skating rink in Goodland and they were married on September 23, 1956.
In 1967, they moved their small family to Kimball, where Carl managed and then owned the OK Tire Store and she served as primary bookkeeper/office manager. She also worked at George Risk Industries on two separate occasions, in 1970–71 and then again in 1994 for 17.5 years before retiring to enjoy spending time at home gardening, baking and visiting. She loved to go fishing and some of her other hobbies over the years included sewing (she made 22 stuffed Geese), and making macrame hangers as well as crocheting. She was responsible for bringing the Girls Scouts Organization to Kimball in 1971. She was an active member in Oak Street Baptist Church for many years and was recently an active member of Kimball Evangelical Free Church in Kimball.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Wayne Bateman of Kimball; her children, Roxann (Jim) Watkins of Brookings, SD., Randy (Kathy) Bateman of Lincoln, Chris (Kevin) Bradbury of Greeley, Colo., Carlene (Kent) Roberts of Loveland, Colo., Dan (Laura) Bateman of Kimball, and Kara (Steve) Schadegg of Holdrege; a brother, Jerry Reid of Cheney, Kan .; a sister, Norma Sponsel of Cheney, Kan .; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws who were all very dear to her.
Her parents, brothers, Ray and Larry, and sister, Patricia Hollis, preceded her in death.
