Sharolyn Kay Robbins

Sharolyn Kay Robbins, 75, passed away at the Kimball County Manor on Aug. 27, 2015 with family and friends by her side. 

Shari, was born in Ovid, Colorado, on Sept. 14, 1939, the daughter of Alva and Faye (Pulley) Speer. The family moved to Sidney in 1951, where she was raised and graduated from Sidney High School in 1957. Her love for music began by playing the piano, continuing with the trumpet in the high school band, where she traveled to Washington, D.C., and was a baton twirler at President Eisenhower's inauguration parade.

Shari married Gerald (Jerry) Robbins on August 18, 1957 in Sidney. This August marked 58 wonderful years together.  They settled in Kimball, where she worked as a proof reader for The Western Nebraska Observer and a bookkeeper for various companies including Larry Anderson CPA, ASI, High Plains Coop, and retired from Antelope Energy Co. in 2013.

Shari had a passion for reading and never went anywhere without a book. The Kimball Public Library was a special second home for her.  She was an avid genealogist and co-founded the Plains Genealogical Society.  Her love for genealogy connected her to many places and people across the country where she developed great friendships. Shari dedicated years to the Nebraska State Genealogical Society where she held various positions including serving on the board of directors.  Shari was interested in architecture and history.  As a volunteer for the Plains Historical Society, she researched houses and buildings throughout the community.  She also belonged to the Alpha Tau sorority where they worked on various community projects and formed lifelong friendships.

Shari was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she played the organ for over 40 years and held various church offices.  She devoted countless hours researching the church history for the 125th anniversary celebration.   Shari loved her family and friends dearly. 

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Robbins of Kimball; daughters, Laurie (Robert) Sisk of Kimball, and Lisa (Michael) Cain of Corning, NY; sons, Gregg (Julie) Robbins of Fargo, N.D., and Scott (Shannon) Robbins of Parker, Colo .; grandchildren, Amy Pearson and friend Christopher Cullip, Matthew (Heather) Pearson, Ross Cain, Taylor Cain, Peyton Robbins, Maxon Robbins, Rachel Franck, Carson Sisk, Lacey Kvamme and Lucas Swanson; great grandchild, Nathan Pearson; brother, Dennis (Lana) Speer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. 

The funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Pastor Carla Gunn officiating. Burial was held in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends were able to call at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 31, from 1-6 p.m. The family was present from 4-6 p.m.
