Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
While the traffic and construction may be a headache with the growth of Sidney and surrounding areas, one good side effect is a lower tax levy required by the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD) to fulfill its budget needs.
For the third straight year the final tax levy is lower than the previous year, this year down 9.59 percent to .051335 per $100 of actual valuation. This means that the owner of a house that is valued for tax purposes at $100,000 would pay $51.34 in annual taxes to the SPNRD. Last year the same levy cost $56.78 while two years ago the levy would have cost $63.59, marking the third straight year for a lower tax levy.
The levy does not just affect home owners; land owners also pay for their portion of the levy. For 2016 a land owner with a 160-acre tract of improved farmland in the SPNRD with an assessed valuation of $208,000 would pay $106.78 or about 67 cents per acre.
