Robert F. Newell, DVM

Dr. Robert F. Newell, 91, of Kimball, died December 17, 2015 at the Kimball County Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Caryl Miller officiating. Burial will be held in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. to sign the register book and leave condolences. Newell’s name to the Kimball County Manor, National Parkinson Foundation or the American Parkinson Disease Association.The services for Robert have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Dr. Robert F. Newell “Doc” was born on July 26, 1924 in Loveland, Colorado to Doris Elizabeth Hull and Thomas Van Buren Newell. He helped his parents on their farm just south of Loveland and on their ranch on Bald Mountain. He served in the Army during World War II as a welder, guard at Fort Leavenworth and military police. Upon returning home he attended Colorado State University’s Veterinarian School. He graduated in 1952. He moved to Kimball and began his veterinarian practice. He married Betty J (Baur) July 4, 1954. His vet practice encompassed the tri-state area. He was the 4-H Leader for the Colts & Fillies for many years with the annual trail ride for all members and family. After his retirement, he spent most of his time with his cattle, family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Newell of Kimball; daughter Sheila Newell of Kimball, Lesa Newell of Harrisburg and Lennette Newell (William Swank) of Lafayette, CA ; Grandsons Justin Newell Hesser (Megan) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Pake Willis Newell and granddaughter Zoe Swank; and his Great Grandchildren, Grayson and McKenna Hesser. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and brother-in-law, half-brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
