Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

A special salute to Kimball High senior Danika Daum this week as she continues to re-write the Kimball High girl’s basketball record book. After setting a new school record of 40 points in a single game a week back, this past week she reached yet another milestone for herself of going over the 1,000 career point mark. Her 15 points at Hershey left her right at 1,000 points and the following night at Bayard she poured in another 25. She now sits in third place on the school charts with Kayli Rageth holding the record of 1386 points set in 2006-2010, and Melissa Christensen in second at 1038 points scored from 1996 to 2000. Danika also had a pretty strong rebounding weekend .... with 14 at Hershey and 22 at Bayard.

I was also informed that prior to this past weekend, Danika was leading the state in per game average but dropped to fourth place after this past weekend’s play with her 24.5 point per game average. Merry Christmas young lady and Happy New Year. We will all be watching!

Brother Mike Daum had a good week as well. He helped his South Dakota State university Team to a 56-52 win over FGCU scoring 14 points while going 4/6 on 3 point field goals and 2/2 at the foul line, and did all of this in 14 minutes of court time. SDS suffered a loss to Texas Tech 79-67 but Mike had 11 points and 9 rebounds going 4/8 on field goals and 2/2 at the line. Give the young red-shirt freshman more playing time and see what his stats would be!

Kendall Ferguson helped his Hastings College Team to a 71-61 win over Mount Marty South Dakota this past week. The former Kimball High standout tallied 8 points, led the team in rebounds with 10, had a block, an assist, and a steal and the Broncos are now 8-4 on the season. Hastings will be back in action December 29 taking part in the Bellevue Classic.
