Lady Coyotes add 2 wins

Potter-Dix got off to a slow start Friday night, but kicked things into high gear in the second quarter and went on to roll past cross-county rival Leyton, 47-32.

The Lady Warriors (6-4) opened with a 5-0 lead as the Lady Coyotes (9-1) struggled, before Payge Hoffman's layup with 5:53 left in the first quarter ended the scoring drought.

Leyton kept Potter-Dix at bay for most of the first quarter, getting a pair of Diedra Waite foul shots and an Abbe Draper jumper for a 10-6 lead with 2:49 left in the quarter. The Lady Warriors held an 11-8 advantage after the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Lady Coyotes. Potter-Dix outscored Leyton 19-5 in the quarter to take a 27-16 halftime lead. Dawson Sharman's jumper made it a one-point game before Trinity Langley hit a putback layup to give Potter-Dix its first lead, at 12-11 with 7:18 left in the half. The Lady Coyotes would never trail again.

Sharman continued the hot streak with a jumper, and later added a layup to give the home team a 19-12 advantage with 4:47 left until halftime. Alexus Rozelle's putback layup gave the Lady Coyotes a 22-12 lead and stretched their lead to double digits.

Rozelle added a fast break bucket with an assist from Sharman at 2:49 that gave Potter-Dix a 25-12 lead and wrapped up a 17-1 run to open the quarter. The Lady Coyotes led 27-16 at the break.

The Lady Coyotes continued their offensive hot streak as they outscored the Lady Warriors 12-6 in the third quarter for a 39-22 lead.

Sharman led a balanced Lady Coyote scoring attack with nine points, as eight players found the scoring column Friday night. Glass and Anna McLaughlin added seven points each.

For the Lady Warriors, Draper led the team with 11 points, while Katie Higgins added seven points.

Both teams open play in the Minuteman Activities Conference Tournament on Tuesday. Potter-Dix hosts Minatare, while Leyton hosts Banner County. Both games begin at 6:30 p.m.

Potter-Dix 62, Hay Springs 30

Potter-Dix jumped out to an 18-4 first quarter lead and went on to rout homestangin Hay Springs, 62-30, on Saturday.

The Lady Coyotes (9-1) built a 31-14 halftime lead and also outscored Hay Springs (1-11) by a 31-16 clip in the second half.
