Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Lady Longhorns 10-2

With two more wins over the weekend, the Kimball High Lady Longhorns ran their season record to 10-2. Latest victims of the Kimball ladies were Bridgeport on Friday (71-42) and Gordon-Rushville on Saturday (72-57).

No problem either night for the Kimball girls as they went past the 70 point mark both evenings. They had a slow start with Bridgeport falling behind 14-9 but ended up on top at the quarter 15-14. They got things rolling in the second period out scoring the visitors 23-10 to take a 38-24 lead to the half time locker room. Good balanced scoring for the Horns as they kept their game going and finished out 16-5 in the fourth period.

Five players in double figure scoring for the winners with Danika Daum high with 19 going 7/11 from the field and 5/5 at the line. She got her double-double with 14 rebounds plus grabbed 4 steals and had 2 blocks. Kate Reader also had a good night shooting going 6/8 from the field and ending up with 13 points. Her other stats showed her with 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Alex Reader tallied 14 points and was 4/5 from beyond the arc showing off her long range shooting abilities. She also had 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists. Arica McCloud continues to come up with key plays for Coach Pedersen and tallied 12 points Friday night with 1 trey, had 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Same story for Madison Biesecker as she finished with 10 points with a trey, had 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. MyriahTyan always gives some good minutes and had 3 points, 5 boards, 2 assists and a steal. An all around solid team effort!

The final team stats show the same although the 20 fouls and 25 turnovers need some attention. Kimball pulled 46 rebounds to 17 for the visitors. Kimball shot 13/16 at the foul line, 6/16 on 3 point attempts, 20/44 on 2 point tries, had 15 steals, 13 assists and 2 blocks.

Bridgeport was 10/20 at the line, connected on no 3 pointers and were 16/43 on 2 point field goals. They were whistled for 20 fouls. Bridgeport is young with only 1 senior and show promise for coach Bryan Schluterbusch. Ashley Weborg led them with 17 points, Lydia Cantu and Riley Hall had 7 each.

Gordon-Rushville has a couple of standout players in junior Josie Perez who scored 27 for the Mustangs and Kenna Campbell with 16, but again Kimball used that good balanced team scoring to secure the win led by Daum who took game scoring honors with 28. Miss Daum shot 10/19 from the field going 3/4 on 3 point attempts and 5/7 at the line. She also pulled 9 rebounds.

Alex Reader continued to show off her long range shooting connecting on 3 and had 17 points plus 7 rebounds and 5 assists as she is always looking for the open player inside. Kate Reader with 14 points on 3/5 shooting from the field and 8/10 at the line. Her complete stat sheet also showed her with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Arica McCloud had 13 points on 4/7 field goal shooting and 4/4 foul shooting, plus 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Madison Biesecker had 1 point, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Kailey Dickerson and Myriah Tyan failed to score but made key plays enroute to the win.

Team stats were good with 17 turnovers, 16 fouls, 22/29 foul shooting, 6/19 from 3 point land, 16/39 on 2 pointers, 38 rebounds, 15 assists and 10 steals.

The Mustangs had 21 rebounds, 19 fouls, were 15/21 at the line, 2/10 on 3 pointers and 18/47 on 2 pointers.

The Kimball girls were seeded number 2 in this week's SPVA Conference Tournament giving them a first round home game with Perkins County this past Monday evening. They will advance into Thursday night play at North Platte Community College. Perkins County was the number 7 seed. North Platte St Pats was the number one seed and drew a first round bye with their power rating of 44.31 while Kimball was 43.20.
