Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball had two medal winners at the Mitchell Invitational Wrestling Tournament with Cody Kirby finishing 3rd at 220 pounds and Garrett Pedersen 4th at 106. As a team, Kimball placed 11th in the field of 15 teams with 26 points.
Coach Wade Brashear said "The competition was good. Overall we wrestled decent, but our inexperience shows. As a team we have shown good improvement, but with a tough D-4 District coming up, we must continue to strive to get better. This week we were without our 285 pounder as he had a family emergency. The team is showing progress and we compete for the last time before districts at the SPVA Conference Tournament Thursday (today), in Hershey."
Pedersen wrestled strong again this week registering two falls but went up against Kingsley of Torrington twice, and lost by fall both times, including the match for third and fourth.
Kirby had a bye in the Quarterfinals, was pinned by Schindler of Pine Bluffs-Burns, won by fall over Hooton of Mitchell, and then pinned Isom of Hemingford in 3:19 to take third place honors.
Trevor Ryschon drew a bye, followed that with a pair of wins by fall, and lost by fall in the consolation semi finals leaving him at 2-1 on the mats.
Jordan Cluff was 1 and 1 on the day and Toby McManigal ended up 0 and 2.
Coach Brashear said he is not sure how many wrestlers he will have for the SPVA Tournament today as he has had some sickness and injury situations along with Eric Escajeda's family emergency. On top of that, with the school closing due to the snow storm, there was no practice Monday or Tuesday. Mat time at Hershey is set for 12 noon today.
