Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Thanks to some nasty weather no track or golf news to report this week, and it looks like we might have more of Old Man Winter this week so we might have more postponements or cancellations again.
The Kimball High Track invite was called off last Thursday (March 24) and as of yet, Kimball Activities Director Ken Smith has not determined if it will be cancelled this year or if he can find a reschedule date that will work.
The Longhorns are scheduled to participate in the Bayard C-D Invite this Saturday (April 2) with a start time of 9 a.m. but once again the weather is not looking all that great.
After just one day’s rest on Sunday, the Horns are right back in action on Monday (April 4) at the Chappell meet, also a 9 a.m. start.

The Kimball High boy’s golf team is eager to get in their first meet which is set for Tuesday, April 5, at Bayard with a 9 a.m. start, and on April 12 they go to the Mitchell Tournament. With the Four Winds Course being closed because of all the snow it has been hard for the Horns to get out and get in much actual on-course practice. Could some body please dial up some good weather?
By the way, the Kimball Junior High track teams will also be at Bayard on April 5 for their first meet of the season. Good chance for Kimball sports fans to follow their athletes by going to Bayard next Tuesday.

I had a pleasant surprise while gassing my vehicle at Vince’s Corner this past week. Suddenly the sun was blocked out by this large body that came around the pump island and gave me a hug and what a surprise it was as I saw the smiling face of Mike Daum. You know, Mike Daum, the basketball player and star of the South Dakota State University Men’s Team! Mike was home for a few days to spend Easter with his family and he brought his girlfriend along and boy did she help beautify our town. I approve of your choice Mike.
Mike also informed me that he has a stress fracture in one foot and has, in fact, been playing on it the last 8 or 9 games. He has been instructed to stay off of it for an extended period of time with no practice, but hopefully no surgery required.

The Omaha World Herald came out with their All State Basketball selections this week. The Kimball girls had three players given Honorable mention including Danika Daum, Alex Reader, and Kate Reader. Banner County had McKenna Dahlgrin as Honorable Mention, and Potter Dix was represented by Audrey Juelfs, Alexus Rozelle, and Dawson Sherman as Honorable Mention.
