Kimball High students working hard in weight room

The Kimball High weight room has been getting lots of use this school year according to Coach Nick Kuxhausen who oversees the weight programs for the Longhorns. Coach Kuxhausen did some testing and posting of results this past week and shared them with me to share with you readers.

Kuxhausen said “There have been great improvements from many of the students throughout this school year. The students are tested quarterly on four core lifts which are the bench press, squat, power clean, and dead lift. To qualify to make the weight lifting clubs and leaderboards, students must be active in a weight lifting class and test quarterly in each of the four core lifts. I am proud of the work these students have put in and look forward to seeing them improve the rest of the school year and over the summer.”

Looking first at the top performers in the men’s division, Sam Tussing was on top in the bench press with 260 pounds, Logan Stahla 2nd with 255 pounds, and Cody Kirby also at 255 with Angel Flores at 225 pounds.

A 3-way tie in the squat testing with Jaden Withrow, Aroon Flores, and Toby McManigal all at 340 pounds, Logan Stahla at 335, and Cody Kirby at 315.

Cody Kirby led in the dead lift division with 405 pounds, Logan Stahla had 385, and Izaak Glanz 375. Jaden Withrow was on top in power clean with 240 pounds, followed by Cody Kirby with 220, and Creg Barker at 215.

Coach Kuxhausen also broke it down into three divisions of total testing for all four of the core lifts listing an 800 pound club, 900 pound and 1,000 pound total club. The top man was Cody Kirby lifting 1,195 pounds, Logan Stahla was at 1,180, and Jaden Withrow at 1,130. There were actually seven lifters in the 1,000 pound club including Aroon Flores at 1,060, Sam Tussing 1,060, Trent Rutledge 1,010, and Izaak Glanz 1,000.

Guro Literle was top bench lifter for the women at 135 pounds, Danika Daum had 130, Justine Heeg 105 and Hannah Biesecker 105. Olivia Ryschon was tops in the squats division with 220 pounds, Guro Literle had 210, and Hannah Biesecker 200.

In the deadliest competition Daum was on top with 250 pounds, Literle at 230, Ryschon 205, and Tesia Claypoole 205. Daum also had the best power clean at 120 pounds, Raelynn Hinton had 115, and Literle 105.

The top three in the women’s 600 Pound Club were Litlere with 680 pounds, Daum with 655, and Biesecker with 610. Four others who made the women’s 500 pound club were Hinton with 595 pounds, Heeg with 590, Ryschon 560, and Claypoole with 530.

With one of the best equipped weight rooms in the area, Kimball students are putting it to good use and Coach Kuxhausen has developed programs that interest the young Kimball High students. It is a proven fact that good weight programs develop good athletic programs and healthy young students.

One of the most eye opening facts for each student from pre-testing final test period are the big improvements shown to each quarter, to the final test period.
