Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Braylon Miller, son of Chad and Julia Miller of Kimball, competed in the 2016 Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championships on Saturday, April 2.
Braylon qualified for the State competition by winning his age division at the council level on February 7 and the district level on Feb. 21, both in Kimball. He followed through with a win at the regional level in Alliance on March 13.
This year's state contest was held in Hastings, where girls and boys, aged 9 through 14, from eight regions across the state competed in six divisions.
Braylon shot the ball well at the contest, according to his father and beat his competition by three free-throws, though the competition seemed to be a little more seasoned this year with the top three shooters in Braylon's division making 20 and 21 free throws of 25 chances.
"Although Braylon did not happen to come home with any hardware this time, he thoroughly enjoyed his experience and will have great memories of his time spent practicing and competing," Chad said.
Other local contestants that advanced to regionals were Thomas Muldoon, 11, son of Ryan Muldoon and Joelle Fiehtner and McKenna Bowron, 10, daughter of Cortney Bowron and Dustin Bowron.
Braylon and his family wish to thank the local Knights of Columbus for giving him the opportunity to compete in the 2016 free-throw contest.
"It was fun and I can't wait to try it again next year," Braylon added.
Also at this year's competition was a young lady that some readers might recognize, Tanya Miller, 10, of Seward, the daughter of former Potter-Dix basketball standout Greg Miller.
