Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The award-winning Kimball County Shuttle crew celebrated Nebraska Public Transit week April 11 - April 15 with games and prizes.
The service offered free rides to patrons who brought food items for the local food pantry.
The crew offered free rides to all veterans as well as their spouses or widows throughout the week.
Free ride tickets were placed around Kimball and anyone finding a ticket could use it for one free trip.
They placed stickers throughout the bus and asked young passengers to find as many as they could.
A photo contest was also held. Whoever took the most photos of the bus throughout the day and sent that photo to driver Kelly Durbin or director Louanna Gawith won a prize basket as did the second place photographer.
Funding for the program comes from the county and state along with federal funding, but the riders' fares also offset some of the cost.
Those fares are exceptionally reasonable. Each round trip in Kimball is just $1, with a round trip from Dix is $1.50 and Bushnell round trips are $2.
Currently the hours of operation at from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and Durbin tries to take a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
