Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Future plans include road trips, family, friends and eleven rentals properties
After nearly 17 years as the superintendent of the custodial crew at the Kimball County Courthouse, Pat Sibal is preparing for retirement.
Sibal said he is somewhat trepidatious about his journey into retirement, but none the less is looking forward to his new role.
"I'm excited, but it's scary at the same time," he explained. "I've seen a lot of changes over the years. We have gone a long way in security at the courthouse as we now have sixteen security cameras and just this last fall we put cameras on the outside of the building."
Since his employment with the county, Sibal has also been witness to a new heating and cooling system, as well as rewiring that needed to take place in the building to accommodate all of the modern technology added over the past couple of decades to a building that was constructed in 1928.
Sibal stated that he has always enjoyed riding his motorcycle and plans on spending some of his spare time riding his 2000 Honda Goldwing when he's not taking care of the 11 local rentals he owns with his wife, Cathy.
He looks forward to having the time to maybe take more cross country trips like the one he and Cathy took with Carolyn and Kenny Wilson in July of 1986.
Sibal lost his mother in a house fire when he was little and subsequently lost his brother when the two were adopted by different families.
He also plans on spending more time with his brother and family with whom he reconnected just recently, in 2011. He and Cathy have since traveled and called, catching up with their new found family members.
The County has not yet started the search to find a replacement for Sibal.
Of his seventeen years spent with the county, Sibal said, "I have enjoyed all the people I've gotten to know over the years. I have met a lot of nice people across the state."
