Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Bridgeport shot their best score of the young season in taking top team honors at their own Bridgeport Invitational this past week with Kimball, finishing runnerup for second place.
Coach Todd Janicek’s Bulldogs shot 334 to claim first place while Kimball shot 340. Behind the top two were Mullen 360, Gordon-Rushville 380, Creek Valley 393, Mitchell 398, Hemingford 412, Garden County 417, Morrill 426, Chase County 444 and Bridgeport JV 489.
Kimball junior Jordan Greenwood captured first place medalist honors with his round of 36-42=78, one stroke better than Kolby Walker of Mullen. Dillon Wise finished sixth shooting 39-43=82 for Kimball’s other top ten medal spot. Zane Anthony shot 43-42=85, the same as the number 8-9-10 golfers but finished out of the medal group by score card playoff. Izaac Reuter shot 46-49=95, and Kole Bush 51-48=99.
Bridgeport had three golfers in the top ten medal group including Cole Retchless in third with an 80, Eric Steven in fourth with an 80, and Todd Widener in seventh with 83.
Kimball coach Chad Wise commenting on finishing behind the Bridgeport team said “We were like flying blind. No one on our team had played the Bridgeport course in the last two years, and even our junior golf program had not played there for like three years. Am I satisfied with what we shot? No, I am not satisfied. We are better than that. I really want us under 300 for a team score. I do realize that we haven’t been able to get a lot of practice time due to the weather. One thing I am happy about is this group never gives up. This group really fights for a win. This group plays as a team.”
Kimball was to play at Chase County this past Saturday but that tournament was called off because of a winter storm and at this time has not been rescheduled. The Horns were also scheduled to play at Morrill this past Tuesday, weather permitting. Next play on the schedule is this coming Monday (April 25) at Scottsbluff with a 9 a.m. start.
