Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball Dead Eye Shooters took the top three finishes in both Air Rifle and BB Gun at the 2016 Nebraska State 4-H BB Gun and Air Rifle Match, held April 2 and 3 in Wayne.
In doing so, the team earned the right to participate in the 2016 Daisy National BB Gun Match held in Rogers, Arkansas later this summer.
The BB Gun Team, comprised of Bailie Brower, Taylor Terrill, Julia Winstrom, Jaren Winstrom and Jared Barnes placed third overall.
Julia Winstrom shot a 360 to earn second place in the 9-10-year-old division. She also won standing with a 90 and kneeling with a 93.
Bailie Brower finished fifth in the 13-15-year-old division with a score of 367 followed by Taylor Terrill in seventh place with a 361, Jaren Winstrom in tenth with a 357 and Jared Barnes in twelfth with a 356.
BB Gun competitors also take a test on safety, range standards and rules that counts 100 points towards their overall score and is used in determining their placing.
Other participants for the Dead Eyes were Chris Foster who finished ninth in the 9-10-year-old division with a score of 348 and Jessica Terrill finished 15th with a 336 in the same division. Maddie Cook scored a 314 and Corey Gardner with a score of 312 in the 11 & 12-year-old division.
In the Sporter Air Rifle Match, on day two, the Dead Eyes came away with a second place team. Team members were Shauntea Daily, Bailie Brower, Jaren Winstrom and Julia Winstrom.
Topping the 8-10-year-old division was Julia Winstrom taking first place with a score of 436 and winning kneeling with a 147 and prone with a 179. Maddie Cook shot a 343 in the 11 & 12 year old division Sporter Air Rifle.
Following close behind was Chris Foster with a second place finish. His overall score was a 526. Bailie Brower placed third overall in the 13-14-year-old division with a 492 and winning standing with a 160.
Shauntea Daily scored a 555 winning the 15-18-year-old division by nearly 30 points. She also won the kneeling position with a 189 and prone with a 194.
The Precision Air Rifle competition was also held on day two. Five members of the Dead Eyes participated in this all standing event. Coming out on top of the 13-14-year-old division was Bailie Brower with a score of 306 out of a possible 400. Jared Barnes took third place honors with a score of 264. Winning the 15-18-year-old division, in her final state match, was Madie Snyder with a score of 381. Shauntae Daily placed fourth with a score of 352 and Jaren Winstrom ended up tenth with a score of 291.
The club members were supported and coached by their parents and club coaches Larry and Nicole Snyder.
