Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
It appears Mitchell is going to have a strong track and field program for a few more years as their junior high track team took top team honors in winning the Kimball Junior High Invite this past week. The Mitchell team won the combined team decision (boys and girls) with 177 points with Burns a distant runner up with 108.5.
Kimball finished fifth in the combined division with 71 scoring 40 in the girl’s division and 31 in the boy’s division to finish fourth in both of those team standings from the field of 11 teams.
Highlight of the day for Kimball was Jenna Greenwood’s gold medal performance in the triple jump with a winning distance of 30’5”, a mark that would place well at high school meets. Jenna also finished second in the long jump at 14’4.5”, ran fourth in the 100 meter dash in 14.10 and ran a leg on the 4 x 100 relay team along with Sierra Rutledge, Megan Spicer and Jaydin Paxton to finish sixth with a time of 1:01.4.
Other places for the Kimball girls saw Spicer take sixth in the long jump at 13’0”. Kimball scored strong in the throws with Carlie Wurdeman second in the discus with throw of 77’10”, and fifth in the shot put at 24’8.5”. Bailie Brower was third in the shot put at 25’11.25” and Sierra Rutledge was at 24’6.75”.
Jacob Withrow placed in four events for the Kimball boys finishing second in the triple jump at 35’00.5”, fifth in the long jump at 17’10”, ran fifth in the 100 meter dash in 13.3, and teamed up with Javon Coyle, Todd Hunsaker and Brayden Tyan to run third in the 4 x 100 relay with a tune of 54.70.
Tyan also had a good day finishing fourth in the triple jump at 33’5.5” and sixth in the long jump at 16’6.75”. Beau Hanks was third in the discus with a throw of 98’2.25” and Ethan Greenwood was sixth at 97’4.5”. Brendan Walker was fourth in the shotput at 37’10.5”.
The Kimball junior high team is scheduled to participate in the Pine Bluffs invite today (Thursday, April 28) with a start time of 9 a.m. They will host the SPVA on May 5.
