Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
One more tournament, one more win, and one more Conference Title for the Kimball High Golf Team as they captured the SPVA Tournament held at Sutherland this past week. This makes them dual conference champions this season as they won the Western Trails Conference earlier in the season.
Led by medalist Jordan Greenwood who captured the individual title with his round of 38-40=78, and with all five Longhorn golfers finishing in the top ten medal group, the Horns won by 19 strokes over runner up Perkins County. Kimball shot a round of 330 on the Oregon Trail Golf Course in Sutherland, on a cold and windy day with winds estimated at around 25 miles per hour, with rain off and on, and with thick roughs to test the golfers, the Kimball golfers got the job done one more time.
Behind Kimball with 330 came Perkins County with 349, Bridgeport 354, Sutherland 366, North Platte St. Pats 385, and Hershey 391. Eric Stevens of Bridgeport was second behind Greenwood with his round of 79. Kimball freshman Zane Anthony was third shooting 39-42=81, Dillon Wise was sixth shooting 45-39=84, Andrew McCloud won a playoff to finish seventh with his round of 42-45=87, and Izaac Reuter won a playoff to place ninth with his round of 46-42=88.
Another great team performance for coach Chad Wise and his winning Kimball High golf team. “We are here to win” said Coach Wise.
Other top ten finishers were Josh Johnston-Perkins County fourth with 82, Kade Francis-Chase County fifth with 82, Todd Widener-Bridgeport eighth with 87 and Tyson Patrick-Perkins County tenth with 88. Reuter actually won his ninth place by virtue of a playoff win over three other golfers.
Coach Wise said “Our win today was O.K. Not bad, but not great. It was really windy and thick, thick, rough. Nice to win.”
It was the sixth win of the season for Kimball along with two runner up finishes. It was also the seventh win for Jordan Greenwood in 8 tournaments.
Kimball was to play their District and state qualifying tournament at the Prairie Club Pine Course in Valentine this past Tuesday competing in the Class C District 5 Tournament with the top three teams and top 10 players advancing to the state tournament to be held at the Kearney Country Club next Tuesday and Wednesday (May 24-25). The team went to Valentine this past Sunday hoping to play a practice round on Monday despite more rainy weather.
