Potter-Dix Children's Theater trains Elvis impersonators for the 9th annual musical fundraiser

The Potter-Dix Children's Theater invites the public to join them for "hypnotic hijinks and mesmerizing music that will leave you all shook up!"

The group, directed by Kristin Kasten, will be performing a musical comedy, "Elvis!", on July 15 at Potter Legion Hall beginning at 7.

"ELVIS!" is a musical comedy which includes classic Elvis music, such as "Viva Las Vegas", "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Jailhouse Rock." The play contains not one, not two, but three Elvis impersonators, according to the news release. Who could ask for anything more?

Kasten added that the production, which includes 30 children aged 4 – 13, is the ninth annual fundraiser for the Potter-Dix Early Learning Facility (PD ELF), a daycare and preschool managed by the Volunteers of America-Western Nebraska.

"They have an insurmountable amount of energy and are extremely excited to share this story and music with the surrounding communities," Kasten added.

The performers practice two hours each weekday for two weeks leading up to the performance at Potter Legion Hall.

"It is amazing what they can accomplish in such a short amount of time. With less than 20 hours of practice, they learn lyrics and actions to nine songs, as well as memorize lines and stage movements," Kasten said. "You have to see it to believe it! They do this for FUN during their summer vacation."

Prior to the musical, there will be a barbecue and a silent auction at Potter Legion Hall with items donated by area businesses and individuals.

"It is just a great way to include the children in the community, I think it is nice that it is something for the kids to do in the summer too," Kasten said. "They really do look forward to it all year."
