Jordan Burroughs, University of Nebraska wrestling champion is headed to the Summer Olympics in Rio and Kimball's own Shawn Nagel was in Lincoln for the big sendoff.
Burroughs, a three-time All American and two-time undefeated national wrestling champion, followed his college career with a freestyle world title in Istanbul, Turkey and a gold medal win in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara in 2011 before winning the gold at the 2012 London Olympics.
Burroughs went on to win the world championship again in 2013 in Budapest, Hungary followed a bronze medal in 2014 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and a 2014 Pan American Championship in Mexico City.
He won the gold in the 2015 Las Vegas World Championships as well as a second Pan American games win in Toronto 2015.
Burroughs goes in the 2016 Summer Olympics with a 2016 Pan American Championship win from San Francisco.
Shawn Nagel and his family attended Burroughs' Olympic sendoff in Lincoln this past weekend. Nagel is a friend of Burroughs' and was a teammate with him on the Husker wrestling team, according to Bob Nagel, Shawn's dad.
"Wow! What a sendoff and a thrill to watch Jordan and know him personally," Nagel said. "He is the face of USA wrestling and we all wish him the best in Rio."
