Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Brendan Walker, son of Bernie and Judy Walker, and a Kimball High freshman this fall, had a standout basketball camp held at the Hastings College facility in late July.
The all around young athlete, who has excelled in junior high sports, just completed a summer of baseball where he was termed one of the top players by his coaches and named Kimball's top pitcher.
Brendan won several awards at the Mid-America Basketball Camp under the direction of Mike Trader, the Camp Director. When Brendan arrived at the camp he was put in the junior high division but when the camp officials saw him play he was quickly moved up to the 9 through 12 grade division. As mentioned, Brendan will be a 15-year-old freshman this fall at Kimball High and stands 5'11". Among his awards, he was named for the Hustle Award on the Boy's Red League, was the one on one champion in his group at the center position, tied with two other players for the Red League Rebound title, and was named to the Boy's Major League All Star Team.
The camp experience was even more special for Brendan, as he got to stay with his cousins, either Charles or Kendall Ferguson, and Kendall, an outstanding Hastings College grad who excelled at both football and basketball while a scholarship student at Hastings; was asked by coach Trader to address the campers, which he did. Before departing for home, Coach Trader informed Brendan that they would be keeping an eye on his play at Kimball. Of course they are going to have to wait four years before they can encourage Brendan to play for them.
In the meantime, the five sport standout will be getting ready for football, the basketball, golf and summer baseball.
Just this past weekend he played on a scramble team along with his sister Jaycie, and cousins Kendall and Michael Ferguson in the Kimball Hospital Foundation Golf Classic. The future looks bright for this young man!
