City budget missed a potential budget cut

For the past few weeks our community is being brought up to speed on how the City Budget is in dire straights.

I attended the City Budget meeting held a couple weeks ago, and was so glad to see many people from all around our City and County attending. There was some discussion and several suggestions made on how to possibly cut back and balance the City of Kimball’s different departmental budgets. This is one way to work towards the goal of being back on track financially for our community.

What I did not hear was how the City Administration (City Office) would cut back, which I do see as a viable way to cut cost for the budget that is being planned. If all the other departments have to cut back, should not the top of the rung be accountable and taken their cuts also as a way to save money in the budget?

I personally would like to know what has happened to the Rail Spur money that we have all continued to pay into. We do not have the legal ability to complete this project, so why are we still paying into an “account” for the (Rail Spur) Initiative. This is just not acceptable to me as a taxpayer. They have already raises amount paid in for the rail spur needs to be voted on to be able to put to another cause agreeable to the community.

If this is not something that is agreeable, then the money should be given back to the taxpayers of this county/city.

The county/city is not my choice of a “Banking System” for my tax dollars. This needs to be addressed!

This means we need to vote once again on this money being held...and that should be NOW!!!

As a side note, I would possibly suggest that the City and County start a non-biased, community based, advisory board. A board that is diverse in age, gender, and covers different financial classes (covering the lower class, middle class, and upper class), that can have a view on what is considered as a viable way to touch every aspect of our growing and diverse community. That way ALL VOICES WILL BE HEARD!!!!

To end this letter, I would like to say that it takes all kinds of different people to make a healthy community. We as a community need to respect each other and learn that it will take ALL OF US to make this community survive!!! Think what you can do today to help make Kimball a better and beautiful community for tomorrow’s generations!!!

Kindly,

Susan Braden - Kimball, NE
