2016 will be the inaugural year for the Kimball Farmer’s Day Mud Volleyball tournament, on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Kimball County Fairgrounds.
This year is “experimental” according to event coordinator Regan Hinton, who hopes for at least twenty teams.
Depending on the amount of interest, coordinators may include additional teams, however, just two courts will be made available for the tournament.
Mud pits will be dug several inches into the fairgrounds arena. Currently, Hinton is in the process of finding volleyballs and figuring out how to get the pits dug.
City Administrator, Daniel Oritz has agreed to allow Hinton to use the volleyball nets from Gotte Park’s sand volleyball courts to use during the tournament and Hinton said that Bill Hinton or Taylor Brown may help make stands to hold the nets.
Teams are forming, and all players must be at least 15 years old, according to Hinton, who added that if this year is successful, then next year they may create age brackets in coming years.
The time is yet to be announced for this event, but Hinton hopes to begin around 10 a.m. She encourages anyone interested to watch the Farmer’s Day Facebook page or give her a call at 308-235-0065.
