Albert Elenberger

Albert Elenberger, 91, of Kimball, died at Kimball Health Services on Friday, September 9, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Kimball Presbyterian Church with Pastor Alan Foutz officiating. Albert Elenberger was born in Saginaw, Michigan on July 25, 1925, the son of Alexander and Amelia (Hoffman) Elenberger. He moved with his family to Arpan, South Dakota and attended school. He worked on the family farm for several years. Albert enlisted in the US Army on July 25, 1944 and served with the 42nd Battalion during WWII at several locations throughout Europe. He was honorably discharged on June 18, 1946. Albert went to work for North West Bell Telephone and while working in Valentine he met Della Mae Roe, they were married on October 17, 1948. They lived in Rapid City, Valentine, Bridgeport and Alliance and then moved to Kimball and he retired from the phone company in 1973. Albert and Della Mae owned and operated the Log Cabin Restaurant and Lounge for 10 years. He then worked for the City of Kimball in Parks Department from 1983 until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed wood working. Albert loved spending time with his children and grandchildren supporting the activities that they were involved in. He was a life member of the Eagles, was a member of the VFW and the Alliance and Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Departments. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He was a member of the Kimball Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his children Dianna (Kenneth) Meng of Arvada, CO., Sharon (Doyle) Westby of Kimball, NE., Alice (Jim) Ryschon of Kimball, NE., Dwain (Lynette) Elenberger of Glendive, MT; and Pamela (Rick) Lumpkins of Rawlins, WY; brother Gerald (Bonnie) Elenberger of Lincoln, CA; sisters Gladys Niva of Prescott, AZ and Judy (Mike) Frothinger of Shasta, CA; sister-in-law Marilyn Elenberger of Paonia, CO; 19 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother Richard Elenberger and one niece and one nephew.
