Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Bouncing back from two tough weeks of opening play, the Potter-Dix football team put up a fight against neighboring Banner County in league play.
Athletes have been working on pursuit and tackling fundamentals in practice this season, according to head coach Dale Frerichs.
“Offensive execution was much better and defense had moments that looked good too,” Frerichs said. “Practice and having a game under our belts certainly helped. There is only one way to get experience and that is to play the games.”
Potter, which has just 10 players on its roster, had to forfeit last week’s game due to low player numbers.
“With our lack of depth, everybody is a key player,” Frerichs said. “Some (Coyotes) with big plays were Tyrus Gawith, JT Herboldsheimer, Terell Gray and Aaron Crawford.”
That lack of depth is one of the biggest challenges facing the Coyotes, according to Frerichs, who added that he plans to focus inwardly and also on improving open field tackling.
“With our lack of experience we need to focus more on us and what we are doing and less on the opponent. We have to continue to improve our fundamentals in game situations and gain experience,” Frerichs concluded.
Still, the Coyotes fought hard against Banner County, trailing just 59-51 at game’s end.
