Longhorns fall to Mitchell and Chase County

The Kimball High Football Team is still looking for that first win after dropping games to Mitchell and Chase County the past two weeks.  On top of this, the schedule doesn't get any easier as they travel to Hershey this Friday night for a 6:30 Mountain Time contest with a club that has been top ten state ranked.

The Horns scored 30 points at Mitchell getting their offense untracked somewhat, but gave up 46 pints to a Tiger Team that averages around 300 pounds up front and equipped with speed and talent in the backfield.  The winners piled up 529 years of offense to Kimball's 388.  Mitchell has 393 years rushing, but also connected on 6 of 7 pass attempts.  Kimball had a good 323 yards rushing and was 4 of 12 passing. Time of possession and first downs were quite equal.

Jaden Withrow had a busy night for Kimball with 22 carries for 145 years, Logan Stahla had 14 carries for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns, Braydan Tyan 2 carries for 50 years and a touchdown, and Jake Jenkins 3 carries for 43 yards.  Mitchell's Drake Gilliland surpassed anything Kimball offered up – as he rushed 31 times for 316 years and 4 touchdowns.  Kyle Spicer had 3 kickoff returns for 119 yards, including a 96 yard return for a touchdown.  In the passing department, Izaac Reuter was 3 of 11 for 46 yards and 1 interception.  Jaden Withrow was 1 for 1 – for 19 yards.  Spicer, Stahla, Colton Mielke and Ryan Soper, all had receptions.

Defensive leaders for Kimball saw Withrow with 9 solo tackles and 6 assists.  Logan Stahla had 2 tackles and 7 assists, Paycen Harroun was 3 and 4, Sam Tussing 2 and 6, Cody Kirby 2 and 3, and Brady Kilgore and James Merryfield were both 1 and 3.

 It was a long drive for a short game for the Chase County Longhorns as they scored fast and often in jumping out to a 40-0 lead by half-time, with the entire second half played with a running clock by virtue of the 35 point margin after the start of the second-half play.  The visiting Longhorns ended up winning 49-8 with Jaden Withrow scoring Kimball's lone TD on a 66 yard run in the 3rd quarter and Logan Stahla running in the PAT.

The winners had 399 yards of offense to 169 for Kimball and Chase County went to the air only 3 times as they ran at will against the Kimball defense.  Their only completion went for a touchdown covering 59 yards.  Bryson Fisher was the man of the hour for the winners with 15 carries for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Dakota Wallin had 9 carries for 47 yards and 2 TDs.

Jaden Withrow had 9 carries for 83 yards and 1 TD for Kimball.  Logan Stahla had 11 carries for 40 yards with no one else in double figure yardage.  Both teams had 7 players with carries on the night.  In the passing department Izaac Reuter was 2 of 6 for the Horns – for 17 yards and 2 intercepts.  Brendan Walker was 2 of 4, for 13 yards and 1 intercept. Austin Lulf had 2 catches for 13 yards, Kyle Spicer 1 for 17 yards, and Ryan Soper 1 for no yards.

Cody Kirby led the defense for Kimball with 2 tackles and 8 assists.  James Merryfield was 2 and 5, Sam Tussing 2 and 2, Ethan Greenwood 1 and 3, Paycen Harroun 0 and 4, Brady Kilgore 2 and 0, and Kyle Spicer and Aroon Flores both 1 and 2.

Kimball is now 0 and 4 on the season as they head to Hershey tomorrow (Friday) night.  Hershey was as 18-14 winner over Centure this past Friday, while Kimball played Centura strong before losing 14-6 in their season opener.  Coach Nick Kuxhausen is playing a lot of young players out of the sophomore and freshmen classes as he is limited on the number of upper classmen.  Again, kickoff at Hershey is moved up to 6:30 p.m. MST.
